Technical Assistance
The SMART Initiative aims to provide numerous services to local and state leaders as part of the Fostering Outreach and Engagement pillar of the University of Tennessee’s Strategic Plan.
As a part of the Institute for Public Service, the SMART Initiative strives to empower communities to implement and maintain prevention, treatment and recovery-related programs. The SMART Initiative employs a substance use response consultant for each grand division of the state (West, Middle and East).
Our consultants provide technical assistance to cities and counties to help overcome the opioid crisis. Services provided include developing opioid abatement strategies, assisting with grant writing and management, guiding community needs assessment and program evaluation, hosting stakeholder or community educational sessions or workshops, and anything else needed to fight the opioid epidemic.
The SMART Initiative also proudly partners with a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Overdose Response Strategy Public Health Analyst to review and analyze data to identify trends and prioritize strategies in communities across the state of Tennessee.
